E-newsletter from the Office of Family Engagement

As if finals week wasn't exciting enough, Mother Nature decided to gift us with a giant snowstorm. Winter Storm Diego brought campus around 14" of snow, which is exceedingly rare for us.

Following final exams, students will head home for Winter Break. Students and families should be sure they are aware of closing and reopening dates for the break. Residence Life and Housing has full details.

On behalf of the Office of Family Engagement, I wish your family a safe, healthy, and happy winter break and all the best for the New Year. May your students have time to reflect on the semester and relax and renew their spirits. And may you have many good family moments together.

See you in 2019!

Executive Director of Family Communications and Volunteer Management

The Summer Immersion Program is a wonderful opportunity for high school students to experience a career pathway or potential major at Wake Forest for a week allowing them some additional insight or clarity about their future. The application is currently live for any interested high school students (including incoming first-year students starting college). It's a great way for high schoolers to get a taste of college — without the exams!

Resources

From the Office of Sustainability: ride-sharing is a great way for students to reduce their carbon footprint as they travel this holiday break. Let's Ride is a digital platform created by two Wake Forest entrepreneurship minors that connects students going to the airport at the same time. Their algorithm matches users, cutting costs and environmental impact to the airport by at least 50%. ShareTheRideNC is a statewide ride-matching service sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART). In dining news, Wake Forest University received a STARS Gold Rating sustainability achievements across the campus; learn more.

From Residence Life and Housing:

  • ALL residence halls close and residents must depart campus by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2018. During this time students will not have access to their rooms, so please remind them to pack accordingly. Details.
  • Spring semester reopening - Residence halls open for students to return on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 9 a.m. NOTE: Students involved with sorority recruitment will return earlier (details to be provided to those women by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life).
  • We want to thank you and your students in advance for your understanding and patience as room changes are always limited during the Spring semester. Should students want to pursue a room change, our open room change process will run from January 22nd until February 5th.
  • Read more updates from Residence Life and Housing.

Campus Safety

On Friday, December 7th, students, parents, and families were given an update on the unsubstantiated threat that was received Sunday night. Read it here.

We encourage parents and others to sign up to receive crime alerts on the Wake Ready website, in addition to downloading the LiveSafe app. While crime alerts are sent in real time to students, faculty and staff, they are not for others. For those registered through Wake Ready, crime alerts are emailed daily at noon, but only if new alerts have been posted in the previous 24 hours.
